The art of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time is like wearing white to a mud wrestling competition.
It's like bringing a kazoo to a harmonious opera classical.
“Just Cheer Up!”
Someone's pouring their heart out about a genuine struggle, and you, bless your cheery feathers, respond with a cheery, "Just look on the bright side!"
As though it is a magical cure-all for existential dread. I see it as trying to extinguish a forest fire with a water pistol filled with faux optimism.
“Let Me Mansplain Your Feelings”
Someone shares a personal experience, and you, with the confidence of a non-seasoned expert, proceed to explain their own feelings to them. It's like telling a fish how to swim.
Maybe… just maybe… listen? Observe their tone, body language, and the general vibe. If you are unsure, just ask, "Would you like to talk about it?" “What would you like me to do?”
“Foot-In-Mouth”
You know, those moments where you say something so spectacularly inappropriate that even your blood cells cringe. You could be comparing a minor inconvenience to a global crisis or making a "joke" that lands with the grace of a huge brick.
If you find yourself in this situation, a sincere apology is your best bet. Acknowledge your misstep, take responsibility, and promise to invest in a "filter" for your brain. Do not laugh it off please. Apologize genuinely.
Why Are We So Tone Deaf?
Ego: We think we know best
Lack of Empathy: We forget that other people have feelings
Social Media: We live in bubbles where everyone agrees with us forgetting the world is diverse!
Tone deafness is curable! It just takes a little practice. If unsure, ask.
First off, hello! This is the first time I'm seeing you and you're gorgeous🥹. Secondly, beautiful work! Very honest and relatable. It happens, life happens and I'm guilty of it. I'll tell you what, accountability and acknowledge is the first step to achievement 💕. Wonderful read, Win!
How can I like this a thousand times????!!!
To think I did a video about this same thing and posted it on my WhatsApp status one time like that!!
Someone will pour out their hearts, describe their pains through words and you’ll just be like….”Lol, it is well”?????
Omo
I wish I can print this out and paste it somewhere for a lot of people to see!
