I was discussing business with my friend yesterday and I realized that one of the reasons many things fail to go exponentially as they should is that they are carrying a lot!
We live in a world where everyone believes the best way to succeed is by copying someone doing it.
“It is easier to develop an existing idea to be better than to innovate a new one,” they say.
With this said we copy everything and end up copying from 5 different people.
The “Steal Like an Artist,” book by Austin Kleon might have just been the bane of the new business idea world’s existence.
They gobbled that book up and took the word “Steal,” seriously.
I am more of a “if it is not broken why fix it?” kind of person. This belief makes me see the new marketing strategies of the capitalist world. For women, we are told virtually everything about us can be wrong: face wash, toothpaste, eyelashes, clothes, now there's fuzz hairs or fuzz peach—one thing where they spray a lotion to shave face hair.
They invent a product and then invent the problem alongside it not offering our world any true solution.
This way we are wallowing in consumerism behavior endlessly. Now, new businesses think they control the powers of the world that be and begin a fancy idea built off an existing idea that is already serving the world well and act surprised when they fail!
The powers that be put these problems in movies, songs, media, and everything consumable. But you one new business in 2024 want to copy Starfocks and become the new hot kid on the block with vibes and inshallah.
Simplify things. If I cannot confidently speak the need I serve in a single sentence then what am I even doing? Running a charity show? Why am I carrying so many offerings? Are people that needy for what I am doing or am I just delulu?
Why would I want to run a business that doesn't bring me income? Why would I invest so much in something I cannot boast of supporting me easily? Business is a lot yes but so is business that is not fruitful!
Simplify your service and your offering so your audience knows it is for them!
This is why I have become more inclined to slow living and slow buying. I do not want to be a consumer who is swayed by herd mentality like sheep.
Before I buy a thing I allow two days to pass or more. If I still need it I will buy it if I don't otilo.
If there is anything I will do it is take my time to do the things I love and align with.
Even your relationships with people ask yourself true true is it because you love them or you just love the weight of being needed? And now you do not know how to function without being needed so you cover yourself with people.
You are afraid to offer your single self and the very simple thing you can do exceptionally to the world out of fear that it is not enough.
I tell you—you are enough!
That one good offering you have sell it. Sell it till the birds of the air and the ants of the field know that when they call your name—your craft also answers present!!!
We do not need to sell everything, monetize our lives in the name of content? Sell our bloods and stories we need to preserve to educate our children for money?
All of you are not meant to be for sale.
Your best gifts may draw kings and queens to your table—your best gifts can also create room for your friends to exist without judgment freely.
Your best gifts can also make a heart smile and have hope in today's uncertain world.
Your best gift can make a 70-year old grandpa share his story and heal of the wounds and regrets of his early life.
Your best gifts can make your mother smile and make your father proud. Those are immeasurable.
Yes, smiles cannot buy beans but they can be a balm to a bruised soul which I believe no medicine on earth can heal. So it is precious.
You are precious. You are talented. It doesn't matter if the proceeds are not monetary.
Many things which are far more precious than money exist and you are one of them.
The purpose of our lives and spiritual journey is not to keep trying harder to sell every aspects of our lives or to keep giving bits of ourselves for crumbs of this world—but to resist and learn to receive things that makes our hearts and body sing.
I hope I made sense. I just wrote from my heart.
Have a good evening.
